Rivers State: Families Squatting on streets of Port Harcourt after demolition of shanties and waterfront

The Rivers State Government commenced demolition of shanties and waterfront communities in Port Harcourt, due to security concerns in the state about a week ago.
This has displaced some families, which has resulted to squatting on the streets of Port Harcourt. Some members of the public have condemned the demolition calling on Government to provide alternatives to the victims while some say ample time should have been given.
By the Investigative reports from Elechi waterfront, the displaced persons are living in harsh conditions with most of their belongings exposed to sun and rain while some have created temporary camps in buildings with open spaces, while some displaced persons are squatting in the temporary camps.
There has been calls for demolition of shanties and water front within Port Harcourt metropolis as it has being a hideout of criminals and drug dealers in the state.
